PLAYHOUSE 90
Playhouse 90 was an anthology series that was telecast on CBS from 1956 to 1960.
It originated from Hollywood, California and most of the shows were broadcast live.
Since live anthology drama series of the mid-1950s were usually hour-long shows,
the title highlighted the network's intention to present something unusual, a weekly
series of hour-and-a-half dramas rather than 60-minute plays.
Playhouse 90 received many Emmy Award nominations. Here now are 15 of
those surviving shows. The quality of most of the shows is 7.5/8 - keep in mind that
some were done live and the only recording available back then was old kinescopes.
A couple of shows are missing opening credits but again -this is just a couple of shows
but the stories are otherwise complete. As an added bonus most of these shows
include the original network commercials for cigarettes, automobiles and appliances.
