PUBLIC PROSECUTOR 1947 - 48

Starring John Howard as Stephen Allen Public Prosecutor

Public Prosecutor was the first dramatic series to be shot on film
(in this case, 16 mm film to save production costs), instead of being
performed and broadcast live. John Howard starred in the title role of a
public prosecutor, along with Anne Gwynne and Walter Sande.

Television's first filmed series; 26 mysteries which ran 17½ minutes each.
DuMont added a live three-member panel plus a host; the film would stop
before the climax and the panel would attempt to guess at the identity of
the guilty party. Other stations were able to purchase rights to air this series,
but those most often did not employ panelists.
